This is Engineering Day 2019

Every year, the UK is short of around 59,000 engineers and of the engineers we’re lucky enough to have, just 12% are women and 9% are BAME.*

The reasons for this are varied, but one of the biggest barriers to entry seems to be misconceptions around engineering itself - that it’s too dull, too narrow and a bit geeky.

It’s something that This Is Engineering wants to change and they’ve named 6 November as #TIE19, a day for us to celebrate engineering and address some of these inaccurate stereotypes head on.

National Grid and the Electricity System Operator is pleased to support #TIE19 and has created a range of materials to help explain the diversity of talent within engineering and why it’s an exciting and unique career choice.

You can view National Grid’s materials HERE and also watch three outstanding ESO engineers discuss their reasons for joining the profession and why they love it HERE.
