National Grid ESO Innovation Manager becomes IET Fellow

Dr Biljana Stojkovska, Innovation Manager and Power Potential Project Lead at National Grid ESO, has been nominated a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

A Fellowship, the highest grade of IET membership, is only awarded to engineers that have operated at the forefront of their field, contributing original research and maintaining high professional standards, for at least five years. Dr Stojkovska is the 207th woman to become a fellow -  only 2.5% of the IET’s 8,284 active Fellows are women.

Dr Stojkovska, who has a PhD from the Imperial College, London, is leading one of the most transformational projects that the sector has seen, the Power Potential Project. She and her multidisciplinary team are pioneering a new approach to energy, based on renewable sources and storage technology in a new regional power market trial. This is expected to create a more cost-effective and reliable system.

Dr Stojkovska is also a member of the International Council of Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) and a passionate Chair of its Women’s Network, which advocates for a greater gender diversity in the engineering and energy sectors.

Her efforts have been recognised by the IET’s Fellowship Committee, which has established that Dr Stojkovska’s application fulfils at least two of their nine criteria: creativity, enterprise, innovation, insight and experience, leadership, repute, responsibility, service, and influence and contribution.

“Being an IET fellow means giving to the organisation but also receiving acknowledgement for my contributions to the field,” said Dr Stojkovska. “I’m very grateful that my application has been supported by two Fellows that work at National Grid ESO, as well as other colleagues. This also strengthens the presence of National Grid ESO within the IET.”

Since 2006, the IET’s goal has been to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community, providing a platform to share knowledge and solve relevant challenges.
