We are becoming a separate company

In April 2019, the Electricity System Operator is becoming a separate company within the National Grid Group. Find out more about what this change will mean.

Enhanced frequency response (EFR)

Enhanced frequency response (EFR) is a dynamic service where the active power changes proportionally in response to changes in system frequency. This service is aimed at improving the management of system frequency pre-fault to maintain system frequency closer to 50Hz.

The payment for the EFR service consists of an availability fee (£/MW/h) that is paid for the hours a provider has tendered to make the service available to us.

Payment expectations

Providers submitted their own availability price for the EFR service during the tender process. These prices informed the economic assessment to determine which parties were accepted.

We procured 200MW of enhanced frequency response through the tendering exercise held in July 2016.
