Strategy and Regulation Director

Kayte O’Neill is Head of Strategy and Regulation for National Grid System Operator.

Kayte leads a team whose focus is on setting the strategic direction for the electricity and gas System Operator – orienting the SO towards business models, policy and regulatory frameworks to deliver customer value and enable strategic growth.

Prior to this role Kayte spent 3 years in the US, focused on developing and executing strategy and policy in areas such as smart metering, electrification of transportation and heat, and the pathway to meeting Northeast US 80x50 greenhouse gas reduction goals, as well as designing new regulatory incentives and negotiating innovative regulatory outcomes in New York and Rhode Island rate cases. 

Kayte previously held positions in Corporate Strategy and as Executive Advisor to John Pettigrew, working alongside the UK leadership team to guide the business through a period of significant change including design and implementation of the new UK Operating Model and the introduction of ‘RIIO’.

Kayte brings a rich knowledge of National Grid, having joined in 2002 and worked in a variety of customer and stakeholder facing roles across Gas Distribution, Electricity Transmission and the Corporate Centre. She has a first class degree in Business Economics and has just recently graduated the Harvard Business School Program for Leadership Development.
