Energy bills can sometimes seem complex, and it’s not always clear what consumers are paying for. Here, you can find out how much of your bill goes towards our Electricity System Operator costs.     


Breaking down your electricity bill

The Electricity System Operator part of your bill, which is subject to regulatory approval, covers the cost of balancing supply and demand, making sure electricity is always there when you need it. The cost of this service is currently £1 of the average annual household bill of £554.
